Who?

About Paris Escapes

We are two thirty-something professional women, Cheryl and Shanda, that have traveled extensively to Paris, France. We created this web site to share our "Passion for Paris".

We are opinionated, honest, and up-front about our experiences. We have high expectations, and our articles reflect this. We don't receive ANY compensation for the reviews and articles on this web site - No free meals, hotel stays, or money.

Why?

What inspired us was the many comments of our friends who did not understand our obsession for the "City of Light". For example,

"I visited Paris on a tour and don't see what the big deal is."

"I'd love to visit Paris, but it is SO expensive."

"I can only get off work for a few days. It doesn't seem worth it to visit for less than a week."

When these same friends traveled with us or heard about our trips - most of them over long weekends on reasonable budgets - they were amazed that they hadn't visited earlier. What we discovered was that the traditional tours and guidebooks of the city, while accurate, don't bring "Paris to Life." These avenues of exploring Paris are designed for mass-consumption - not individual interests.

We created Paris Escapes to share our favorite experiences, tips, and travel tricks. We understand how limited most traveler's time is, so we designed our site to help you "maximize" your time/money by addressing:

Practical Concerns - Such as what to pack and what to leave at home, how to choose a credit card for the trip, and general "Do's and Dont's".

Experiences - How to design an itinerary for a long weekend around your interests - shopping, exploring, night life or artistic pursuits - not around what a generic tour book/guide thinks you should see/do.

Thousands of visitors read this site each month. See what some of them have to say about the Paris travel information they found on Paris Escapes - read our customer testimonials.

What?

This site is for the young at heart, who crave a unique Paris experience. Read the guidebooks for background info - this site is not designed to rehash descriptions of the Eiffel Tower, or directions to and the open hours for the Louvre.

Instead, we complement the guides with our take on the best way to approach the Eiffel Tower for a view that you won't forget, and a tour of the Louvre that a confessed Shopoholic will find intriguing.

Member of Travel Web Owners Association

We are a member of Travel Website Owners, a group of travel writers who publish up-to-date travel information on destinations throughout the world on the web. The group includes many traditionally published authors who have written guides for Lonely Planet, Moon and others, but they now publish their own personal guides via the world wide web, where the information can be more immediate and the interaction more personal.

Future Projects: We are currently working on a New York City travel guide, Manhattan Escapes, a London travel guide, London Travel Escapes, a worldwide weekend travel guide, Three Day Escapes, and a site focusing on traveling with small children, Travel with Tots. Look for this sites to launch in 2007. (Links for Hotel Bookings in London and Europe).
